Welcome to another information packed newsletter from DiveXsite. It has been an exciting couple of months at DiveXsite, with courses and trips running on a regular basis.

We have just come back from a fantastic weekend away at South West Rocks. Fish Rock Cave gave us perfect conditions of great viz and calm seas plus it showcased a myriad of things to see. Fish Rock put on what it is best known for; the divers were surrounded by Grey Nurse Sharks (30+) and explored their way around and through the cave. It was a great group of divers who were able to spend the weekend playing under and above the water.

We payed our respects on ANZAC Day by spending the time diving the EX HMAS Brisbane, where one of our newest divers Angus completed his wreck specialty.

We have some exciting trips coming up with some favourite local sites, we're heading north to the Bunker Group and don't forget our upcoming trip to Truk Lagoon, Micronesia.

New Divers

We'd like to welcome to the world of diving, Angus Gibbins, Sofie Rissager, Lloyd Jones, Michael Stevenson, Shane Hastings, Scott Howarth and Jonathan Kipling our new open water divers. Congrats to Ben Armitstead and Daniel Maughan who have completed the grueling task of becoming Dive Controller Specialists. We have 6 more in training for the prestigious achievement.

New Product

The new GoPro HERO 2 has arrived.

The GoPro ‘Hero2' is wearable and gear mountable, waterproof to 60m, capable of capturing professional full 170º wide angle video and 11 megapixel photos at a rate of 10 photos per second. EX HMAS BRISBANE Saturday 12^th May

Join us for a spectacular dive on the Ex HMAS Brisbane. We have 1 space left! Departing at 10am 

This former warship was sunk in July 2005 for diving and now rests off the Mooloolaba coast in 27m of water. The wreck has purposefully blasted access holes allowing entry to the engine room, boiler room and the sleeping quarters of its former crew.

This is a great dive site; the wreck itself has now become an artificial reef and home to many species of tropical fish, nudibranchs, turtles, eagle ray, octopi, anglerfish and much, much more. The trip is a perfect opportunity for anyone wanting to experience a wreck or deep dive and in turn can count towards an Advanced certification or a speciality course in these areas.

The cost includes tanks, weights, 2 dives and transport if needed.

We are having a late start for this trip, so you can have a sleep in, we depart at 10am!!

Julian Rocks 20th May

Julian Rocks has earned a reputation as being one of the most abundant fish dives in the world. It is an extension of Cape Byron separated by water and forms a most unique marine reserve, providing shelter and food for more than 500 tropical and temperate fish species alone!

Manta Rays, White Spotted Eagle Rays, Leopard Sharks, Grey Nurse Sharks, Cuttlefish and Turtles are all regular encounters at Julian Rocks. Your dive trip will go to the most favourable sites depending on the sea conditions for that day. Your day will consist of 2 boat dives.

Your trip will include tanks and weights, 2 dives, transport and dive guide services, if required.

We'll be leaving the shop at 5am.

Live Aboard Trips Moreton Bay

25 - 27 May, 1 - 3 June

This trip operates in the Moreton Bay Marine Park and surrounding areas. The vessel has facilities to accommodate up to 24 divers in air-conditioned berths, 2 large dining areas, fully licensed bar with lounge area, TV, DVD, CD Stereo, a huge covered upper deck area.

You will get in 7-9 dives during the weekend and that includes a night dive.

This trip is perfect for completing an Advanced course or Specialty courses as the trip always endeavours to show you the BEST spots that Brisbane has to offer.

Included in your trip is all your dives, air fills, meals, accommodation, linen and dive supervision; the only thing you have to bring is your personal gear, dive gear and a smile.
If you require dive gear the staff at DiveXsite will be happy to arrange hire gear available for you, but please let us know beforehand and we will bring it along for you.

We depart from Newport Waterways Marina, Griffith Rd, Scarborough, approx. 7.30pm Friday Night. (Parking available). The vessel returns between 4- 5:00pm Sunday afternoon.

Cost for this trip is only $470.00 and All divers are required to provide: A certification card, Log Book, dive knife, dive slate, and a Safety Sausage.

5 Day Bunker Group Trip  9^th - 14^th June

Up to 22 amazing dives on the Great Barrier Reef, we will be going to the best sites surrounding Lady Elliott, Lady Musgrave, Fairfax & Hoskins Reefs.

5 nights accommodation in air conditioned bunks.

Great variety of dives sites including: reef, wall, drift & night dives.

Truk Lagoon, Micronesia 2^nd - 13^th August

A major shipwreck site from WWII, Truk Lagoon is unquestionably the world's best shipwreck diving destination. Here, more than 50 hulks have been transformed into shipreefs, holding the very best of the undersea world and maritime history at one site. Hard and soft corals in a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes attract divers worldwide for both daytime and night diving. The vast selection of artifacts still found on the wrecks after five decades are testament to the unique history of the Micronesian Islands. The historical aspect of Truk Lagoon is not totally hidden by the jungles.

Come spend the weekend with DiveXsite on ‘Venus II', taking you to the "Bunker Group". Our trip is 3 days of unique dive sites surrounding Lady Musgrave Island, Fairfax Island & Hoskyn Island.

This trip is a must for every diver with diverse coral cays, reefs, islands and abundant marine life.

The MV Venus II is a superb 22metre long vessel with spacious guest cabins featuring ensuites & aircon.

Spaces are limited with only 12 divers on board, which will mean a small group of likeminded individuals with the focus on great diving & good fun.

Treasure Hunt & Photo Competition 26^th May

DiveXsite is excited to announce our first ever treasure hunt and challenge!
Join us on the 26th of May for a day of fun, to challenge your skills, hunting for lost treasure and being creative with your camera!

There are prizes to be won for best photo of the day; 2 categories, one land and one under the sea! So as we can involve our non diving family and friends.
There will be treasures to be found under the sea and a treasure chest of goodies will await your return.

Afterwards you can enjoy a tasty BBQ lunch and revisit your dive experiences with others. Everyone who participates gets a free DiveXsite stubbie cooler!!

Picture Competition:
We will set up an event page so as people can upload a maximum of 4 pics (2 land and 2 sea) for the photo comp. Voting will be carried out by you the "enthusiast" and the Winner will be whichever pictures receive the most ‘likes' in each category, a week later.

Best of luck searching and snapping pictures!!

An awesome feeling!

Have you or a friend wanted to try SCUBA diving but were just unsure? Come down to the pool and see what all the cool kids are doing!
